Kregel Windmill Factory Museum
When Arthur (Art) Kregel suddenly died in the late 1980’s, the Kregel Windmill Factory was closed. The building, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, has since “been frozen in time,” and restoration has allowed for the re-opening of this factory to the public.
Sampson Construction renovated the existing prairie-style, wood structure. Our team was careful the work did not disrupt any historical remnants. This renovation is unique in that our team built a shell around the original 1902 factory. Careful construction was completed around machinery and records that date back to the Civil War. The shell included new roofing, walls and foundation. A deteriorated porch located in the back of the existing structure was raised and replaced along with a restroom and mechanical room. This project also included work to the house located next to the museum that serves as the office and visitor center for the museum. It received new flooring, paint, upgrades to the mechanical and electrical systems, the addition of a new accessible ramp, restrooms, repairment of basement walls, a new roof on the porch, new gutters and downspouts.
