Phillip H. Schoo Middle School & YMCA

Phillip H. Schoo Middle School and YMCA is a 215,000 SF combination middle school and full-service YMCA. The YMCA portion of the facility is 49,800 SF and the structure is precast columns and beams in one area and 95’ glu-lam beams above the natatorium and cardio area. The natatorium houses a full-size lap pool, play pool and a spa. There are three full-size basketball courts in the gymnasium that are shared between the YMCA and school.

Even though the project was bid in a competitive market, Sampson reviewed the budget and looked for ways to save. A standardized filter system on the HVAC units was implemented to help reduce maintenance cost. This allows for the same size filter in each individual unit within the 250+ unit facility.
