University of Nebraska - Kearney Wellness Center Addition

Students at the University of Nebraska at Kearney have access to a new recreational facility on campus. The Wellness Center includes renovated classrooms, a fitness center and program and research space for UNK’s exercise science education and research program.

This project consisted of a 4,000 SF renovation to existing space within the Cushing Center and a two-story 19,000 SF addition northeast of the Cushing Center. The first floor of the addition serves UNK Campus Recreation and features cardio equipment, a rock climbing wall, group fitness studio, strength training areas and staff office space. The second floor provides research, faculty and academic space for the UNK Physical Activity and Wellness Lab. The Physical Activity and Wellness Lab will be used for UNK health studies, community outreach and public health research. The lab conducts research and promotes physical activity to Nebraska residents through community and school-based programs. A separate entrance leads to the lab and is equipped with a demonstration kitchen for nutrition and wellness classes as well as a workout space.
