Kawasaki Rail Car Addition
The Kawasaki Rail Car Manufacturing Facility project consisted of a multi-phase, fast-tracked expansion. Phase one consisted of a 55,000 SF addition designed for final assembly of new rail cars as well as a storage area for completed rail cars prior to shipping. This phase added one clear span bay 85’ x 650’. Phase two consisted of a 136,000 SF addition to be used for rail car design.
The fabrication area includes welding spaces, exhaust systems, overhead cranes, in-floor utility trenches and special fabrication equipment. This phase added one clear span bay 85’ x 1600’ to the north side of the facility. A previously undefined phase was also completed and contained the construction of quality control offices, employee training rooms and mezzanine storage in a portion of the phase two project area.
Additional phases included a function test building; site and utility work; a new test track; the southeast addition (64,000 SF of storage and fabrication area including new loading docks); and facility site alterations and additional parking areas.
