Merrick County Medical Center

This entirely new 52,500 square foot hospital supplants Central City’s existing hospital, doubling the size, and incorporating new technology. The building itself began with a steel frame structure with masonry veneer. The interior includes six inpatient beds, a rural health clinic, universal care rooms, an operating theater, CT/X-ray room, pharmacy, a full range of procedure rooms, emergency room, and administrative rooms.

As a design-build arrangement, Sampson participated in intense value engineering procedures, helping the hospital board realize its vision of peak rural health while keeping the project under budget. Despite constraints like a tight schedule and a raw greenfield site, we were able, through planning and negotiation with the owners and designers, to complete the project below the anticipated budget.
