Bamford Elementary School

Bamford Elementary School is a new 77,000 SF two-story PK-5 school built for Poudre School District. A brick masonry veneer comprises the majority of the exterior finish with some metal panel. The mechanical system is a geo-exchange heat pump system with two vertical well fields.  The lighting is predominantly LED lighting fixtures.

The site includes three parking lots with a bus drop-off loop, playgrounds, many outdoor teaching areas and a combined soccer/baseball field. The west side of the school has incredible views of the Rocky Mountains. The cafeteria has two enormous garage doors that open up to an outdoor seating area. This cafeteria space was angled a few more degrees so that it lines up with a direct view of Horsetooth Mountain. The interior of the building will incorporate a realistic rock wall and will have a look of a river flowing through on the floor of the front entrance. A substantial number of windows allow for natural light in each classroom. The interior classrooms contain many overhead doors so the teachers can have the opportunity to “open” or “close” their classrooms.
