Sunken Gardens Renovation

Sunken Gardens is a two-acre depression-era project first built in 1931. The gardens were built on an abandoned neighborhood dump, had not received any major renovations in over 70 years and were in need of a considerable amount of repair. 

Work focused on repairing most of the infrastructure of the sunken gardens. This included restoration of the garden's pools and fountain, retaining walls, sidewalks to allow accessibility to all visitors, site lighting and signage. Other work consisted of the addition of new restrooms, an entry pavilion, parking and installation of automated irrigation systems, sculptures and touch screens for park visitors to learn about the native plants. Some of the products used were precast slabs for stairs, crushed granite for some of the trails, steel and cable trellises.
