Early Learning Center at Gateway

The Early Learning Center at Gateway is a research-based program supported by the Buffett Early Childhood Fund that prepares at-risk children for school. The 34,000 SF facility has a storm shelter, mechanical room, commercial kitchen, 16 classrooms, administration, consultation and teacher/resource areas, as well as play areas and a multi-purpose (gymnasium/auditorium) space. Clerestory areas, aluminum glazed storefront and curtainwall systems were incorporated to utilize natural lighting.

Some of the unique project features include a terrace with an independent drainage flooring system; segmental retaining walls; architectural masonry with varying depth and color changes; flexible playground areas with multiple play and landscaping features; and a mechanical system with a cooling tower and multiple heat pumps to allow for climate control of each individual classroom.
