Elwell Elementary School

New to Johnstown, Colorado, our Sampson team finished Elwell Elementary in August 2022 right in time to welcome over 600 students into its doors for the 2022/2023 school year. The new 2-story elementary school replaced 65-year-old Letford Elementary school; and is the first new school in the Weld RE-5J school district in 20 years.  Consisting of 77,000 SF of learning space, each classroom is constructed as a learning suite, and within each suite are the teacher’s own office suite. The school features a dining/community commons area, breakout rooms, a STEM room for robotics and technology, a sensory room in the special education learning suite, as well as a makerspace and learning lab for hands-on work. The school library opens to both floors and offers a large collaborative area. The campus grounds surrounding the school hold a multipurpose turf field, a hard-surface play area, and a basketball court.

Our students and staff love our new building. We have designed a school that creates a learning environment. The outdoor learning spaces create unique learning opportunities, and the ability for students and teachers to work collaboratively. Working with a group like Sampson that listens and responds to our requests is refreshing. It is the difference between a good new school and a great one. I wholeheartedly recommend Sampson for any future projects.
