Kearney Humane Society

After three years of planning and fundraising, construction of the Kearney Humane Society began June 2005. The 7,344 SF animal shelter was complete in little more than 8 months, culminating in a ribbon cutting ceremony February 2006.

The Kearney Humane Society was made possible as a result of the generous donations of gifts, time and talents of many individuals. This project included a slab on grade foundation with masonry bearing walls and a wood truss roofing system. Cultured stone and EIFS were the key materials used on the building’s exterior while interior floors and walls were covered with epoxy for easy upkeep. The facility has a small administrative area, gift shop, adoption area, kennels and an outdoor dog run. The ventilation and drainage systems added a complexity dimension due to the small quarters in which they are contained. The Kearney Humane Society is situated on a three-acre plot in west Kearney and offers pet adoption, veterinary services, foster care, volunteer programs, animal population control and education.
