Army National Guard Aviation Support Facility

The opening of this Army Aviation Support Facility ushered in a new era of Nebraska Army National Guard aviation. This project encompasses five National Guard Aviation units and was designed to house six CH-47 Chinook helicopters and four smaller OH-58 Kiowa helicopters. The facility was environmentally controlled using a geothermal HVAC system.

The Army Aviation Support Facility located in Grand Island, Nebraska consists of three buildings for a total of 100,000 SF. This project was constructed on a 50 acre site that supports inspections, maintenance, repair, and servicing of authorized rotary winged aircraft. The aircraft are used for training, natural disaster relief, and combat. Programmed facilities include environmentally controlled maintenance hangar bays with allied shops, administrative training, storage areas, and an unheated aircraft storage facility. The buildings include a maintenance hangar 35,000 SF; unheated storage hangar 36,000 SF with 29,000 SF for maintenance support shops and administration areas.
